"When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude." G. K. Chesterton

When We Are Baaa-d - The Lost Sheep

The Parable of the Good Shepherd is a simple, yet enchanting story about how a shepherd, left his flock of 99 to find one lost sheep who had foolishly strayed.  Of course, the lost sheep is a sinner, and the Good Shepherd is Jesus who lovingly searches for, finds, and then rejoices in the one found.

The good news is that (1) each of us are all known by name, (2) God has an individual love for us, and (3) we all have a personal, loving Savior. And when we wander away and do baaa-d things, rest assured that Jesus, the Good Shepherd, will lift us up and carry us back to the road that will eventually lead home to Heaven.

As a family, look up images of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. See if one of them is particularly appealing to your child and talk about it.  Maybe even print out a copy and use it as a reminder of how much Jesus loves us even when we do foolish things. Just like the shepherd in this story, Jesus is kind, loving, patient, strong and, above all, self-sacrificing. It is because He laid down His life for our sins, that we are saved.

"The Lord is my true Shepherd, no want nor fear I know. He leads me by safe paths, and I will follow."
