WELCOME LETTER
September 28, 2025
Dear Parents:
Welcome to our Sunday school program. My name is Kathy Plush, and along with Lois Paul, will work with you to prepare your child to receive the sacraments of Penance (also known as Reconciliation or Confession) and the Holy Eucharist (Solemn Holy Communion). Typically, children join our class as first grade students, are with us for two years, and are then ready to receive these sacraments by the end of their second year. In recent past we have, however, had older children enroll. Their readiness to receive is determined on a case-by-case basis.
There are also some students who have not yet been confirmed. If this is the case for your child, Confirmation will be conferred when they are ready to receive Penance and Solemn Holy Communion.
This year we will be building a review workbook, as we go. It will include the key points of each lesson and a reinforcement activity. Hopefully, this approach will work better than the take-home assignments. In addition, each in-class lesson will have an on-line video that can be viewed by your child at any time. Following is the link:
https://mrsplush.blogspot.com/p/lesson-1-god-father.html
For our Spanish speaking students, I have reworked six of the videos so that they have Spanish closed-captioned subtitles. They can be found here:
https://mrsplush.blogspot.com/p/guia-de-estudio-en-casa-para-espanol.html
It is our hope that we are giving you the resources necessary for your child to learn as much as they can about Jesus and our Catholic faith.
Attached, for your convenience, are paper copies of two documents: namely,
- Our Curriculum that is formatted to also give you our Sunday School Calendar, and
- The Ten Learning Objectives for our Solemn Holy Communion Candidates
Finally, if you have not done so already, please complete the school registration form and be sure to give us your email address.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding our program, I can be reached by phone (484) 832.6567 or by email rslcounsel@aol.com. Miss Paul’s contact information is as follows: (484) 319.7178 or lpaul601@comcast.net.
Thank you, in advance, for your support of our program. Together we will help your child’s love for Jesus grow.
Septiembre 28, 2025
Estimados padres:
https://mrsplush.blogspot.com/p/lesson-1-god-father.html
Para mis estudiantes de habla hispana, he reelaborado seis de los videos para que tengan subtítulos en español. Se pueden encontrar aquí:
https://mrsplush.blogspot.com/p/guia-de-estudio-en-casa-para-espanol.html

TEN LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Please work with us to be certain that your child:
(1) Can bless him/herself properly.
(2) Can say the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Publican’s Prayer of Contrition, by and from the heart.
(3) Has an age-appropriate understanding of the Most Holy Trinity as one God in three Persons: namely, the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
(4) Understands the basics of the 7 Sacraments, as a source of God’s grace, with special emphasis on Baptism, Confirmation, Reconciliation (Penance), and the Holy Eucharist (Communion).
(5) Knows what temptation is and what constitutes a sin. This means that s/he is familiar with the Ten Commandments and, in a general way, how Jesus lived.
(6) Knows how to prepare for and make a good confession, recognizing the fact that a priest (Father Ron), through the power of the Holy Spirit, forgives us our sins, if we are truly sorry and repent. (Repent means to work at changing our ways so that the sin is not easily repeated in the future.)
(7) Understands that Father Ron, through the power of the Holy Spirit, turns ordinary bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ during the Consecration of our Divine Liturgy.
(8) Understands the words and has memorized as much of the Communion Prayer as possible.
(9) Knows how to properly receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ and believes in the fact that, when we receive Holy Communion, it is truly the time when He is one with us. It is special, sacred, and uniquely Catholic.
(10) Has opened his/her heart to Jesus, so that s/he feels loved, blessed, grateful, and inclined to choose to live a life that is pleasing to God. This is truly Living Jesus!
Prior Years' Correspondence
Dear Parents:
Welcome to our Sunday school program. My name is Kathy Plush, and along with Lois Paul, will work with you to prepare your child to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession) and the Holy Eucharist (Solemn Holy Communion). Typically, children join our class as first grade students, are with us for two years, and are then ready to receive these sacraments by the end of their second year. In recent past we have, however, had older children enroll. Their readiness to receive is determined on a case-by-case basis.
As you know, in our Ukrainian Catholic Rite, Holy Communion is given to (typically) infants when they are baptized and confirmed, such that they are fully initiated into the church. It is at the parents’ discretion to continue permitting their child to receive Holy Communion as preschoolers, but it is by virtue of your child’s preparation that they will have a better understanding of what it means, and thus receive what is called “Solemn” Holy Communion, that is, receiving the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus in a state of grace having confessed their sins to a priest.
Our classes are video-driven and are aligned with the Bridgeport Catechism workbook your child will use at home for reinforcement of the material presented during the first semester of school. We will also have in class activities that hopefully will make learning about Jesus fun, memorable and exciting! Your child is at an age where their mind and heart are wide open. Lois and I plan to fill that opening with as much love as we can muster. The more they learn about Jesus, the more they will come to love Him and hopefully live like Him, as well.
Here is a link to our classroom website. https://mrsplush.blogspot.com There you will find our curriculum, our video lessons, and so much more. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with it.
Attached, for your convenience, are paper copies of important documents, including:
- Our Curriculum that is formatted to also give you our Sunday School Calendar,
- The Ten Learning Objectives for our Solemn Holy Communion Candidates, and
- Information on the handouts your child received today.
If you have any questions or concerns, I can be reached by phone (484) 832.6567 or by email rslcounsel@aol.com. Miss Paul’s contact information is as follows: (484) 319.7178 or lpaul601@comcast.net.
Thank you, in advance, for your support of our program.
Sincerely,
Kathy Plush

INFORMATION ON THE HANDOUTS
YOUR CHILD RECEIVED
ON THE OPENING DAY OF SUNDAY SCHOOL
The Prayer Process Card
This is a step-by-step resource you can use at home to teach your child how to pray in an intentional way. The hope is that praying becomes a habit, and that, among other things, your child becomes aware of the need to listen for God’s voice.
Praying Cards
Keep these cards in a safe and handy place so that your child gets comfortable reading them on a regular basis. Work towards having them memorize as many as possible. This year we have added a blank card so that they can write and illustrate their own prayer. It is important to know that praying in our own words and from the heart is a wonderful way to approach God.
The Bridgeport Catechism
This workbook is intended to supplement our videos and class discussions. There is a single page assignment for each weekly lesson. Please have your child bring the workbook to class each week.
The odd-numbered pages are to be completed, as we go, on a one-week lag basis, such that the worksheet can be used at the beginning of the following week’s class for review purposes. Certain lessons will also introduce specific prayers. They should be prayed daily using the Praying Cards.
The even-numbered pages are in a Q&A format, and I am asking that you simply read it with your child to reinforce the important points of each lesson. It is in the Baltimore Catechism format, as that is how I learned as a child, and it was effective.
In that you know your child best, I am asking that you use your judgment in what work you have your child do. This is especially true for our younger students. In fact, I have a different workbook that is simpler and designed with more fun activities, rather than worksheets to complete. Let me know if you would like to see it. The goal is to plant seeds of faith and water those seeds so that your child grows spiritually strong and able to navigate this messy world. By God’s grace, this year will be blessed!
Dear Parents,
Please have your child complete ONE of the enclosed Thanksgiving projects:
For our students who like to color:
Color the Ten Commandments Turkey
For our students who like to write:
Complete the Thanksgiving Acrostic Poem
For our students who like to draw:
Pick ONE of the Bible verses; rewrite it and then colorfully illustrate it on the blank paper provided.
When your child’s work is completed, please take a picture of it and email it to me (rslcounsel@aol.com) by Monday, November 21, 2022. We will assemble the worksheets for a creative presentation to publish on both our class and church websites. We did a similar class project last year and it was well received.
Let’s WOW Father Ron and our entire church family by our collective efforts in wishing them all a Happy Thanksgiving from the God Squad Fighting Spirits!
As always, thank you for your help!
Kathy & Lois

Hello, parents. Here is an optional homework assignment in which I hope you decide you want your child to participate. Conduct a family meeting, as described below, and then have your child become a "Commandment Keeper" for your household.
Activity: Over the course of this upcoming week, pick a commandment and intentionally work hard on obeying it. As a family, talk about what the commandment means and how, when obeyed, it can help you, individually and as a family, live holier lives. Celebrate when you see each other making the choice to obey God's laws. Give encouragement where there is the failure to do so. Sometimes good choices are hard to make, but working on becoming better every day is an honorable objective. Feel free to work on just one or as many commandments as makes sense for you. Hopefully your child and your family will experience some benefit from this activity. (Note: I have heard from children in the past that they designed "incentives" to encourage positive change or reinforce good behavior. This sounds like a fun upgrade to keep the focus on learning and growing. So put your creative thinking caps on. Good luck!)
While you can find God's Ten Commandments in Exodus 20, here they are in language that your child will better understand:
1. Love God the most! Put God first!
2. God's name is holy. It is only ok to say "God" if you are praying. Don't use His name in a bad way.
3. Worship God on Sunday by going to Church. Dedicate Sunday as a day of rest or service to others.
4. Obey and respect your Mom and Dad.
5. Be kind. Do not kill or hurt anyone. All life is sacred and must be respected.
6. Be true to your spouse. Be loyal to your friends. Keep your promises to God and to one another.
7. Do not take what is not yours, unless you have permission to do so. Do not steal.
8. Tell the truth. Do not lie or say bad things about others.
9. Have pure thoughts. Be happy with who you are.
10. Do not be jealous of what others have. Be grateful and happy with what is yours.
I will give the children an opportunity to report on this activity during the review part of our upcoming lesson. As always, thank you for your on-going support of our program.

Hello, parents! This is the mailing referenced in my Welcome email sent on Wednesday, 9/21/22.
Enclosed you will find:
- A copy of our Curriculum. Please note that this and other valuable information can be found on our class website. https://mrsplush.blogspot.com
- Praying Cards or, for returning students, a Ten Commandments card to add to the deck issued last year.
- The Bridgeport Catechism Workbook - Fall Semester Edition. As you will see, it is intended to supplement the videos, and includes a single page assignment for each weekly lesson.
The odd-numbered pages are to be completed, as we go, on a one-week lag basis, such that the worksheet can be used at the beginning of the following week’s class for review purposes. Certain lessons will also introduce specific prayers. They should be prayed daily using the Praying Cards, so that two things happen: namely, the prayers are committed to memory and praying becomes a daily habit.
The even-numbered pages are in a Question & Answer format, and I am asking that you simply read it with your child to reinforce the important points of each lesson. I chose this format, as The Baltimore Catechism was how I learned as a child, and in my opinion, effectively so.
In that you know your child best, I am asking that you use your judgment in what work you have your child do. I am thinking that some might be motivated to memorize the answers, while others not. Our goals are straight forward: to have them excited about joining our weekly meeting because, among other things, they enjoy the videos as they learn about Jesus; to work hard at creating an environment wherein they feel comfortable participating in our class discussions, and to have them realize that their presence is important because they are loved! I promise that Miss Paul and I will do our best to achieve these goals, and then the Holy Spirit will do the rest!
This is the first year that we are using The Bridgeport Catechism, so your feedback would be appreciated. We are hopeful that it is a useful tool for you in your efforts to help us ready your child for this important milestone in their spiritual journey.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about this mailing or any other matter as it relates to our Sunday school program.
I can be reached at rslcounsel@aol.com or by phone at 484.832.6567.
Sincerely,

Dear Parents,
Following is a worksheet on the Seven Sacraments. As you know, these outward signs are the essence of our faith and the source of the grace we need to live holy lives. I expect to use it in class this weekend as a way to review the video they recently viewed. So … it would be helpful if you could find the time to work with your child on its completion. Thanks and enjoy your extra hour of sleep, as we “fall back” on Sunday morning.
Hello! In our last lesson, we talked about Satan taking the form of a snake when he tricked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, such that she and Adam committed the original sin. Satan can also slither into your thoughts and have you feel all sorts of negative emotions that could lead to bad choices. Learning to keep a grateful heart and positive attitude is a big step in the direction of keeping Satan away from you, and choosing to do what is right. Like the dove, your spirit will be at peace. Here’s an activity sheet that you can complete to help reinforce this important life lesson. Be ready to show us your best work on Sunday! Have a good week.
Love,
Mrs. Plush

Hello! Here is the picture that Mattey requested I send. We will take a look at it, as a class, this coming Sunday, and I will tell you the story of how I came to have the picture in my possession.
I decided to also include the Guardian Angel prayer. I hope you will keep this card by your bedside and that you will make it a habit to pray it every night.
You have now been introduced to The Sign of the Cross, the Our Father, the Glory Be, Holy God, and the prayer to Your Guardian Angel. Sometime late in this semester, I expect to create for you a little prayer book, to include these prayers, as well as the Hail Mary and the Communion Prayer. The book will be another item for your collection of Sunday school keepsakes. J
For your assignment this week, I would like you to get into the daily habit of talking with your Guardian Angel. Remember your angel was hand picked by God for you, and will be used by Him as both a messenger and a supernatural friend who will keep you safe. The closer you choose to get to your Guardian Angel, the more likely you will be aware of how much your Angel will help you.
Have a good week! I can’t wait to see you on Sunday.
Sincerely and with love,
Mrs. Plush
Optional Assignment #2
October 5, 2021
Hello! Here is the mail I promised to send. J You now have:
- A Prayer Process Card – Remember to keep this card in a safe place and use it every day. Your goal is to make praying a habit and to become really good at praying. It is through prayer that you will come to know God, and the more you know about Him, the more you will both love Him and want to please Him.
- A Guardian Angel Coin – This is another item I hope that you will want to keep. On Sunday we will learn about the angels and I would like you to use this coin as a reminder of the special supernatural friend that God has handpicked for you to help you live like Jesus. Your Guardian Angel is your protector and the one who is always with you.
- Instructions on How to Make a Magic Cross* – This is your Lesson 2 - Reinforcement Activity. Once you make the magic cross, I would like you to practice making the Sign of the Cross, remembering to use your right hand; clasping your thumb, index finger and middle fingers together; touching your forehead, chest, right shoulder and left shoulder, then bringing your hands together at your chest in a prayer-like form. When you make the Sign of the Cross, you say, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen”
I hope you are having a fun week and look forward to seeing you on Sunday. It will be fun as we welcome 2 new students, siblings from Rhode Island – Coraline and Eliana. God is good!

Hello, parents. Thank you for your help in the successful launch of our Sunday school program. I took time at the end of class to get feedback, and it seems as though the children were satisfied with the class. Thank God!
I have decided that weekly I will send an email with an optional assignment for you to use with your child as reinforcement. At the onset, let me assure you that I understand how busy your life is and how important it is that we work to keep your child’s interest in attending Sunday school high. So, the activities will be varied and you are encouraged to use your judgment in determining what is best for your child.
This week I am asking that you help your child become a PRAY-ER because it is through prayer that a person can come to know God. Prayer is talking to God and it is how you bring Him into your life.
On Sunday, your child was introduced to the Our Father. This prayer is called the Perfect Prayer because these are the words that Jesus taught. Matthew 6:9-13.
OUR FATHER, WHO ART IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED BE THY NAME.
THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE,
ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD,
AND FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES,
AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO TRESPASS AGAINST US.
AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION,
BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. AMEN
Have your child practice the Our Father, learning to say it by and from the heart. Talk about each line of the prayer and use it as a springboard into a discussion of what might be on their mind. For example, it could be that they would like you to pray about something for them. OR, you might learn that they have a need to work on forgiving someone or asking for forgiveness. The idea is to help them understand that not only are you available to them but, importantly, God is ever present, waiting to be invited into their lives.
Prayer is powerful. Encourage them to pray often and with confidence, using formal prayers or their own words. Help them make praying a habit and you will have gifted them with the wherewithal to experience an interior peace that comes from God and rises above all circumstances.
Before I get into the specifics for Sunday’s Google Meet, please respond to me privately, if you have any equipment issues or if your child is unfamiliar with a virtual class setting. We will do our best to accommodate you.
With respect to our upcoming class meeting, your instructions are straightforward. Shortly before 11:00 on Sunday morning, use this link: https://meet.google.com/vhi-soss-kiv and click “Join Meeting”. Lois and I will be already logged on and prepared to admit your child.
This Sunday we will allocate time to get acquainted and, as such, ask that your child come prepared with a “Me Bag” containing 3 items that show who they are. The items must fit into a bag about the size of a lunch bag. Feel free to have them decorate the bag, but more important than the container, is the bag’s contents, so please encourage them to give it quality thought. Our hope is that this activity will be a good icebreaker, as well as a feeder for our discussion, once we begin our first lesson on God the Father. Children, at this age, are naturally innocent, with curious minds and open hearts. There is no better time to teach them to know, love and serve God, using the unique talents and temperament with which they were born. Perhaps the “Me Bag” will give us some insight into His design for them and they will feel special as they wonder about the possibilities.
