"When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude." G. K. Chesterton

The Like Ness Monster

Have you ever got caught up in counting the “likes”,
Of people you barely know?
As if the number would change a thing,
Or influence the way that you go.

The monster burrows inside your head,
Causing you to incessantly measure.
And think that this game is all it will take,
To give your life purpose and pleasure.

A sense of ego and self worth,
With “loves” now in the count.
Raising the bar – going too far,
How will I ever dismount?

This balance beam is anything but,
As I run to check the stats,
I hardly can contain myself,
OMG my numbers are flat!

So what will it take for me to unplug the phone,
To rewire the flow of esteem?
So that the “likes” I seek are mine alone,
And those of the One who redeems.

This matter is very fragile.
The monster knows how to endure.
But liking the word and loving the faith,
Are two counts that he can’t ignore.

For prayer will build your knowledge of self,
As you feel His presence so pure,
Causing the monster to go down for the count,
And having you love God more!
